I have a confession: I absolutely ADORE ranch dressing! I dip hot wings with it, slather it on pizza slices, smother sandwiches with it in lieu of mayo and even use a dollop or two on fish as a change from the usual tartar sauce
And yes, I do use it on actual salad.
Loving ranch the way I do, I am always on the lookout for a kick-ass ranch dressing.
My partner, Jah, makes a ranch dressing that puts Hidden Valley to shame, and he has graciously shared it with me, and allowed me to share the recipe with all of you.
In his own words:
“Ranch dressing has been a staple in my kitchen and household my entire youth and young adult life. It was something I could never keep enough of. Of course, growing up in the Santa Barbara area where Hidden Valley Ranch created and perfected this unique dressing…I give you the basics of this wonderful dressing, and all ingredients are a rough estimate because I believe this dressing only serves as a base for your own unique palette. Adjust, add, and/or remove for personal taste.”
1 cup Real buttermilk (shaken well)
¼ cup mayonnaise
3 Tbsp sour cream
3 Tbsp parsley, finely chopped
2 Tbsp chives, finely chopped
1½ Tbsp lemon juice
1 clove garlic, finely chopped
½ tsp kosher salt
¼ tsp coarse ground black pepper
Combine all ingredients into a medium mixing bowl and whisk vigorously until smooth. Sample and make adjustments. Whisk smooth again. Allow to chill.
*Real buttermilk will give you that smooth, thick creaminess you’re looking.
**Dry ingredients can be substituted if the fresh are not available though it will require more.
